The Optimistic, The Brain Clear

Region far behind the eye that become active when people think about the good things that happen in the future. The more optimistic a person, the area is increasingly bright. It appears in the brain scanning as reported scientists in a small study published online in the Journal Nature.

As part of the brain called the rostral anterior cingulate cortex (rACC) appears to have depression interruption when people, said Elizabeth Phelps of New York University and String Sharot of University College London who participate in the research.

Experts in the study was conducted MRI scan (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) to 15 people when they are thinking about the possibility in the future. When the participants have problems both incidents, both rACC and amigdala involved in emotional responses and fear is activated. However, the correlation with optimism is the largest cingulate cortex.

"The same study also found that people tend to think that happy event is near and more clearly visible than the ugly incident, even when they have no reason to believe," a Phelps. Psychologists have long mentioned as separated optimism, but recent studies provide new details.

When the researchers ask the subjects to think about 80 different incidents in the future that may be good, bad or neutral, they had difficulty thinking negative or even neutral about the future.

"For example, when asked think crop in the future, people imagine the best crop in their life, not the usual crop," said Phelps.

"The study is considered reasonable and interesting with the new and different research questions from the optimism and the brain," said Schacter And, psychology professor from Harvard University that joined in the research.

Actually let the brain to think that optimism is good. "Because if you are pessimistic about the future, you will not be motivated action," said Phelps.
